I have never even <i>heard<\/i> of an answer from them that isn&#8217;t their Magic 8-Ball imitation. <i>&#8220;Reply hazy, read the license text and ask your own lawyer.&#8221;<\/i> Our lawyer is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mike_Godwin\">Mike Godwin<\/a> and he says it makes his head hurt. YOU WROTE THE DAMN THING. WHAT DID YOU MEAN? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? ANSWER ME!<\/p>\n<p>In fairness, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsf.org\/about\/contact.html\">FSF contact page<\/a> says licensing@fsf.org will help with <i>&#8220;questions about the GPL and free software licensing.&#8221;<\/i> Even the FSF has given up trying to make sense of the GFDL. The new version can&#8217;t happen soon enough.<\/p>\n<p>(Provoked by asking for help with the <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Reuse\">reuse FAQ<\/a> and the likely utter unfeasibility of <a href=\"http:\/\/lists.wikimedia.org\/pipermail\/foundation-l\/2008-April\/thread.html#41749\">audio versions of GFDL text<\/a>. The latter is one of the best arguments I can think of for running screaming to CC-by-sa as absolutely soon as possible and throwing the GFDL into a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XqpfhrlDJR0\">fire<\/a>.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Has anyone ever gotten a straight answer from licensing@fsf.org about GFDL queries?
