I changed my mind a while ago, and had my opinion confirmed by what Google <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/support\/forum\/p\/AdSense\/thread?tid=3834c82722992f4e&#038;hl=en\n\">did to TVTropes<\/a> just a <a href=\"http:\/\/tvtropes.org\/pmwiki\/pmwiki.php\/Administrivia\/TheSituation?from=Main.TheGoogleIncident\">couple of months ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder what gay and lesbian employees of Google think of this. I haven&#8217;t heard one breathe a <i>peep<\/i> over the fact that any TVTropes page with the slightest gayness is behind a filter. Censorship, it&#8217;s insidious.<\/p>\n<p>But! That&#8217;s okay! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=yuppie-nuremberg%20defense\">You&#8217;ve all got mortgages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>TVTROPES IS THE UNIVERSAL COUNTEREXAMPLE. YOU <i>CANNOT<\/i> ADVOCATE ADS ON WIKIPEDIA WITHOUT A KILLER CASE FOR WHY THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO US.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia having ads would be the worst possible move for the mission: &#8220;Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That&#8217;s our commitment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No advertiser in existence would stand for that in practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used to be a big fan of ads on Wikipedia.
