It&#8217;s meaningfully testable."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Visual Editor is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:VisualEditor\/Feedback\">live and in testing<\/a> on English Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>People are past the stage of shouting IT&#8217;S A DISASTER AND THE WHOLE PROJECT MUST BE SHUT DOWN (that was last week); it&#8217;s reached that sweet spot on the upslope of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Logistic_function\">logistic curve of progress<\/a> where the basic functionality is in place, it&#8217;s usable enough to beta properly, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.wikimedia.org\/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&#038;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&#038;bug_status=NEW&#038;bug_status=ASSIGNED&#038;bug_status=REOPENED&#038;product=VisualEditor\">all the little finicky bugs<\/a> are coming out. (&#8220;Yes, it edits now, but I WANT A PONY. A nice one, mind you.&#8221; &#8220;IF YOU CAN MAKE A PONY, A UNICORN IS TRIVIAL.&#8221; &#8220;YOU CALL THAT A UNICORN? YOU&#8217;VE GLUED A CORNETTO TO THE PONY.&#8221;) And the devs are actually keeping up with them. Holy crap, they&#8217;re successfully flying this beast <a href=\"http:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/notes\/2011\/01\/04\/what-you-see-is-for-the-win\/\">TO THE MOON<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, experienced editors: please go test the visual editor on your gnarliest articles. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:VisualEditor\/Feedback\">Report any breakage, big or small<\/a>. Save a bad diff, self-revert then report the breakage. Give <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/User:Okeyes_%28WMF%29\">Oliver<\/a> something to do with his copious reserves<font color=gray><i><sup>{{cn}}<\/sup><\/i><\/font> of free time. (In between coming up with &#8220;cornetto unicorn.&#8221;) <b>Update:<\/b> and please <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?limit=500&#038;tagfilter=visualeditor&#038;title=Special%3AContributions&#038;contribs=newbie&#038;target=&#038;namespace=8&#038;nsInvert=1&#038;tagfilter=visualeditor&#038;year=2013&#038;month=-1\">check and report problems with<\/a> newbies using the visual editor. (HT Nemo.)<\/p>\n<p>(The visual editor is somewhat annoying, but it works well enough that the bug reports are useful. I find it easier, if slower, for correcting a typo; harder for adding a sentence with a reference. But the main reason experienced users should be testing it is that it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/notes\/2011\/01\/04\/what-you-see-is-for-the-win\/\"><i>important<\/i><\/a> &mdash; and experienced users will give it the serious kicking it needs to get the bugs out.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Visual Editor is live and in testing on English Wikipedia.
