Those are the only use cases I\u2019m actually seeing today.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ethereum smart contract <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/ethereum-smart-contracts-in-practice\/\">coding standards<\/a> remain as high as ever \u2014 it turns out there&#8217;s a lot of gambling smart contracts that have <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.positive.com\/predicting-random-numbers-in-ethereum-smart-contracts-e5358c6b8620\">really predictable &#8220;random&#8221; numbers.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Bitcoin is still prosecution futures, per the new paper <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1801.07501\">When A Small Leak Sinks A Great Ship: Deanonymizing Tor Hidden Service Users Through Bitcoin Transactions Analysis<\/a>. The researchers collected 88 Bitcoin payment addresses from darknet sites, including two ransomware addresses. Currently reading Andrew Hickey&#8217;s new one, <i>The Glam Rock Murders<\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2GLllIf\">UK<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2EDuxhc\">US<\/a>), which so far nails the classic rock scene much as the first one nailed the right-wing transhumanists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In further stream-crossing, Scott Alexander returns to LessWrong to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesserwrong.com\/posts\/MajyZJrsf8fAywWgY\/a-lesswrong-crypto-autopsy\">write about cryptos<\/a>. With <a href=\"http:\/\/eruditorumpress.tumblr.com\/post\/141525419586\/an-attempt-to-placate-siliquasquama\">a single clear point,<\/a> and in less than 6,000 words. His thesis is that it&#8217;s a failure of rationality not to have gone all-in with Pascal&#8217;s Wager, which is how we ended up with <a href=\"https:\/\/rationalwiki.org\/wiki\/Roko%27s_basilisk\">Roko&#8217;s basilisk<\/a>. His <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/LQGCx\">2018 Slate Star Codex survey<\/a> had a question for how much you&#8217;d <i>made<\/i> from cryptos, and no option for having <i>lost<\/i> on them. Yudkowsky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/yudkowsky\/posts\/10156147605134228\">disagrees<\/a>, FWIW: &#8220;I find it amusing to be sure that the LessWrong forum had a real-life Pascal&#8217;s Mugging that paid out.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>From the comments, it seems that MIRI and CFAR, the people valiantly defending us against basilisks, are getting <i>lots<\/i> of donations in cryptos these days, and particularly from <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligence.org\/2018\/01\/10\/fundraising-success\/\">Vitalik Buterin<\/a>.
