Wright ended with a whimper on 6 December 2021, with a jury verdict in favour of W&amp;K Info Defense Research, LLC \u2014 which was awarded $100,000,000 compensatory damages. The jury was deadlocked, but finally agreed on this one of the twenty-odd questions before them. So that\u2019s it. [<a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536.812.0_1.pdf\"><i>Jury verdict<\/i><\/a><i>, PDF<\/i>]<\/p>\n<p>Craig Wright heralds this $100 million loss as a \u201cvictory,\u201d and says he won\u2019t be appealing. I suppose not being up for 500,000 bitcoins that he doesn\u2019t control is a win. The Court has reserved the right to award attorney\u2019s fees \u2014 remember that Wright already had fees <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/08\/28\/wright-loses-big-to-kleiman-judge-rules-kleiman-estate-owns-half-the-satoshi-stash\/\">awarded against him personally<\/a> for his behaviour during this trial. [<a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536.814.0.pdf\"><i>final judgment<\/i><\/a><i>, PDF<\/i>]<\/p>\n<p>Blithering idiots are claiming this proves Wright is Satoshi, which was not a question that was considered in this trial.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew O\u2019Hagan, who wrote a biography of Wright \u2014 that I drew on extensively for the Craig Wright section in <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/book\/\"><i>Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain<\/i>,<\/a> chapter 6 \u2014 still wants the Kleiman estate to pay for his costs defending against an <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/07\/24\/kleiman-v-wright-international-deposition-and-discovery-requested-from-andrew-ohagan-ramona-watts-and-robert-macgregor\/\">intrusive deposition,<\/a> and which a UK court has already ruled they owe him. Kleiman paid \u00a334,988, and still owes \u00a392,707. \u201cEverything about Plaintiffs\u2019 attack on O\u2019Hagan\u2019s privileges and privacy was \u2018contentious, oppressive, and burdensome\u2019 \u2013 to say nothing of costly.\u201d Magistrate judge Bruce Reinhart has recommended the court deny O\u2019Hagan\u2019s motion, as O\u2019Hagan is already pursuing the debt through the Florida courts. They\u2019re starting a subsidiary to develop Kickstarter-but-it\u2019s-blockchain, with a view to moving the main company to said blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>There is no detail on why this is a good idea \u2014 certainly not in the official announcement, which handwaves about \u201ca more open, collaborative, and decentralized future.\u201d The best guess anyone has is venture capitalist buzzword compatibility.<\/p>\n<p>This is a good example of how interest in &#8220;enterprise blockchain&#8221; correlates extremely closely to whether Bitcoin is bubbling right now. The worst part is that, for the moment, Kickstarter is still the least sketchy of the crowdfunding sites.
