Both the CFTC and the Department of Justice are looking into the issues raised by the <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/04\/30\/bitfinex-tether-and-the-ny-attorney-general-everything-is-fine\/\">New York Attorney General.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Remember how Tron did a deal to <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/03\/04\/news-quadriga-the-merchant-case-for-cryptos-ripple-malta-coinbase-buys-neutrino-coinhive-shuts-down-eos-hack-tether-on-tron\/\">run tethers as tokens<\/a> on the Tron blockchain? Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/04\/30\/bitfinex-tether-and-the-ny-attorney-general-everything-is-fine\/\">&#8220;recent news&#8221;<\/a> about Bitfinex and Tether, Tron&#8217;s realised it might be an idea to <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/tron-foundation\/trc20-based-usdt-rewards-postponement-e76ac2fb3ab4\">delay their USDT Rewards programme.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Twitter user Normal_RC hazards a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/normal_rc\/status\/1123702530033246208\">guess<\/a> as to what Bitfinex&#8217;s $1 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/tiny\/bitfinex-to-issue-exchange-token-shareholder-claims\/\">&#8220;Initial Exchange Offering&#8221; token plan<\/a> is about \u2014 &#8220;Bitfinex will create 1 billion BFX tokens, sell 100 million to a shill\/affilate entity for $1 each, then claim their unsold treasury supply of 900 million BFX tokens have market value of $900 million, which now backs Tether. Accounting trick.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kara Haas has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accountingweb.com\/technology\/trends\/what-accountants-should-know-about-tether-reserves\">an article on AccountingWeb,<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dividebynine\/status\/1110907121028210688\">Twitter thread,<\/a> on the potential implications for accountants of Tether&#8217;s definition of &#8220;reserves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/finance-and-economics\/2019\/05\/04\/concern-about-cryptocurrencies-could-lead-regulators-to-crack-down\">spoke to the Economist again<\/a> about Tether \u2014 and it&#8217;s also in tomorrow&#8217;s print edition.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s a &#8220;dollar&#8221; worth? Somewhere between 98 cents and $1.05:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/05\/03\/news-bitfinex-and-tether-latest-craig-wright-man-of-action-india-bans-cryptos\/tether-spread\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13129\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13129\" src=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tether-spread.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tether-spread.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tether-spread-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tether-spread-768x486.jpg 768w, https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tether-spread-1024x648.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s nothing new in Craig S. Wright&#8217;s defamation suits, except that Peter McCormack has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterMcCormack\/status\/1118896315478495234\">received the\u00a0 lawyer&#8217;s letter<\/a> in the post.<\/p>\n<p>Ben from Decrypt went to see Wright talk at the Oxford Union. There was a <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6834\/craig-wright-faces-scrutiny-at-oxford-university\">somewhat heated exchange<\/a> over Wright&#8217;s now-deleted backdated blog posts, and the nature of evidence \u2014 specifically, that Wright and Jimmy Nguyen (nChain) are trivially incorrect to claim that pages saved on the Internet Archive aren&#8217;t legally admissible.<\/p>\n<p>As well as bringing suits against others, Wright is dealing with a suit brought against him \u2014 he&#8217;s being sued by the estate of Dave Kleiman, his claimed partner in the creation of Bitcoin. Wright submitted an email aiming to get the case dismissed \u2014 it purports to be a 2012 exchange between Kleiman and Uyen Nguyen, in which Kleiman appoints Nguyen as a director of the company. Unfortunately, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/408211735\/Dr-Matthew-J-Edman-Testimony-in-Kleiman-v-Wright\">expert witness, Matthew J. Edman,<\/a> says the PGP signature is from 12 March 2014 \u2014 a year after Kleiman died. And if the email is real, then Kleiman misspelt his own name. Wright withdrew the email as evidence \u2014 but Kleiman\u2019s estate is using it as <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6827\/craig-wright-faked-email-billion-dollar-lawsuit-court-expert-claims\">evidence <em>not<\/em> to dismiss the case.<\/a> Here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Bitcoin\/comments\/bdxkii\/the_fraud_continues_craig_wright_just_purposely\/\">a Reddit post<\/a> on how to check the signature yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Wright&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@craig_10243\">Medium blog<\/a> is sometimes a remarkable read. Here&#8217;s Craig &#8220;300 Unconfirmed Signatures&#8221; Wright on <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@craig_10243\/the-story-of-bitcoin-continued-2f1ec78ba38b\">the origins of Bitcoin:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I was offline for much of January 2011. During the time, I had travelled to Venezuela where I was working with a \u201cJawbreaker\u201d team. The work was focused on stopping the trafficking of humans for the sex trade. I was in \u201cprevention.\u201d I did not bring people to justice, I worked with teams to stop things, permanently.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wright&#8217;s LinkedIn around this time (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/Q66Gl\">archive, 9 December 2015<\/a>) shows him working at a string of fairly normal-sounding IT companies in Australia \u2014 and the legally-admissible Internet Archive record of his <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151123212331\/http:\/\/gse-compliance.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\">blog posts<\/a> were fairly mundane (and he&#8217;s not a fan of United Airlines).
