Wright claimed in 2015 and 2016 to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of Bitcoin. I discussed his claims in <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/table-of-contents\/\">chapter 6<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/book\/\"><i>Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain<\/i><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In late June 2017 he spoke at the Future of Bitcoin Conference (where he was introduced as \u201cBitcoin Dundee\u201d) and threatened legal action against those who had called him a \u201cfraud;\u201d<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=v1_gxvx_QGo&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=4478\">186<\/a><\/sup> this led to a burst of people, including Bitcoin core developer Peter Todd,<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/peterktodd\/status\/880748933991067649\">187<\/a><\/sup> calling him a fraud. He refused to be drawn on his previous claims to be Satoshi.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. Wright has started sending legal threat letters to people who claimed he is not Satoshi Nakamoto. Wright is demanding recipients publicise the following text:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>APOLOGY TO DR CRAIG WRIGHT<\/p>\n<p>I was wrong to have alleged that Craig Wright fraudulently claimed to be Satoshi. I accept he is Satoshi. I am sorry Dr Wright. I will not repeat this libel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The first letter went to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/articles\/craig-wright-threatens-libel-suit-letter-bitcoiner-demands-apology\/\">Hodlonaut on Twitter<\/a> \u2014 and Wright even put out a <a href=\"https:\/\/coingeek.com\/craig-wright-targets-crypto-troll-hodlonaut-defamation\/\">$5,000 bounty<\/a> (payable in Bitcoin SV, his personal Bitcoin fork) for anyone who could doxx Hodlonaut. Preston Byrne is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/prestonjbyrne\/status\/1116799403979870214\">assisting Holdlonaut pro bono<\/a> (Preston is a <a href=\"https:\/\/prestonbyrne.com\/legal-notice\/\">solicitor in England<\/a> as well as an attorney in the US), and they&#8217;re accepting <a href=\"https:\/\/weareallhodlonaut.com\/\">crypto donations for expenses.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other threat recipients include <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6520\/peter-mccormack\">Peter McCormack<\/a> of the What Bitcoin Did podcast \u2014 who has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterMcCormack\/status\/1117448742892986368\">responded.<\/a> And <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CalvinAyre\/status\/1118136462640320512\">Adam Back,<\/a> inventor of Bitcoin predecessor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hashcash\">Hashcash.<\/a> And <a href=\"https:\/\/coingeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2019-04-12_Vitalik-and-Ethereum_WRI2.1.jpg\">Vitalik Buterin,<\/a> care of the Ethereum Foundation. If someone were suing me for defamation, the tweet from Calvin Ayre, Wright&#8217;s backer, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CalvinAyre\/status\/1115369797427056640\">about Buterin<\/a> is the sort of thing I&#8217;ve <a href=\"https:\/\/suburbia.net\/~fun\/scn\/demo\/leaflets\/public-warning\/\">previously put<\/a> in counterclaims. Vitalik&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VitalikButerin\/status\/1116640719152668672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1116640719152668672&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fambcrypto.com%2Fethereums-eth-vitalik-buterin-refuses-to-play-craig-wrights-game%2F\">pretty chill<\/a> about it so far, though.<\/p>\n<p>The Bitcoin community is outraged \u2014 and that includes the exchanges. CZ from Binance <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1116563034476957699\">threatened<\/a> to delist Bitcoin SV, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6537\/binance-kraken-shapeshift-bitcoin-sv\">following through.<\/a> Same for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ErikVoorhees\/status\/1117842010793099265\">ShapeShift,<\/a> and Blockchain Wallet. Gemini gently pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tylerwinklevoss\/status\/1117851400564813824\">they hadn&#8217;t listed BSV in the first place.<\/a> I loved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2019\/04\/16\/kraken-is-delisting-bitcoin-sv-amid-controversy-but-the-exchange-plans-to-list-2-coins-per-month-starting-in-may\/\">Kraken&#8217;s quote:<\/a> \u201cIn this case, it is a unique case for us, we haven\u2019t delisted any other coins because the founders, people who are promoting it turned out to be total assholes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Calvin Ayre previously got <a href=\"https:\/\/coinrivet.com\/calvin-ayre-an-apology\/\">an apology from CoinRivet<\/a> with similar wording to the apologies demanded in the present cases.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-04-17\/crypto-s-most-controversial-man-explains-his-cartoon-cat-fight\">interviewed Wright<\/a> over the matter, which they called a &#8220;cartoon cat fight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All of this is, of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6549\/nchain-bitcoin-sv-jimmy-nguyen-craig-wright\"><em>good<\/em> news for Bitcoin SV.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If fraud from the chief promoters is sufficient reason for a delisting from Binance&#8230; almost everything should be delisted<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; nic carter (@nic__carter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nic__carter\/status\/1117810946511187969?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 15, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Who could have guessed that a Build Your Own Financial Conflicts of Interest sub-community could get so nasty<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kyle S. Wright <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536.137.0.pdf\">declined to answer<\/a> several questions on grounds of &#8220;national security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At some point, you&#8217;d think that <a href=\"https:\/\/motherboard.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/43jy5w\/seasteading-bitcoin-fans-say-theyre-on-the-run-from-thai-government\">Bitcoin seasteaders<\/a> would realise that the idea of declaring yourself a sovereign country has literally never worked. Particularly as it comes out Chad Elwartowski and his girlfriend are only <em>renting<\/em> their &#8220;country&#8221; from a company trying to <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8bceePdFruU\">market a seastead franchise.<\/a> I&#8217;m surprised to see talk of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-04-18\/bitcoin-couple-face-death-penalty-in-thailand-for-seastead\/11031336\"><em>death penalty<\/em><\/a> just for declaring your box floating off the coast of Thailand a sovereign casket &#8230; there&#8217;s got to be more to this story. I have been told rumours that drugs were found, which, of course, would be a <em>completely<\/em> shocking thing for Bitcoin libertarians to be involved in.<\/p>\n<p>Bittrex <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2019\/04\/15\/they-sent-four-people-who-didnt-know-anything-about-blockchain-bittrex-claps-back-after-brutal-bitlicense-rejection\/\">responds<\/a> to its <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/04\/11\/news-coinbase-suspends-bitcoin-quadriga-officially-bankrupt-bittrex-out-of-new-york-bitfinex-margin-trading-on-tethers-blockstack-reg-a-token-offering\/\">rejection<\/a> for a BitLicense: the NY Department of Financial Services &#8220;sent four people who didn&#8217;t know anything about blockchain.&#8221; Or not enough to know that &#8220;Donald Duck,&#8221; &#8220;Elvis Presley&#8221; and &#8220;Give me my money&#8221; are definitely 100% legitimate trader names.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/satoshistreasure.xyz\/\">Satoshi&#8217;s Treasure<\/a> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/articles\/satoshis-treasure-the-chase-is-on-for-a-1-million-bitcoin-prize\/\">contest<\/a> to win $1 million worth of Bitcoin \u2014 you go to the web page and try to guess the next key. Cryptocurrency people are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2019\/04\/18\/proof-of-work-satoshis-treasure\/\">the sort of cryptographers<\/a> who do verification client-side, so the contest&#8217;s creator left the first three keys &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/johncantrell97\/bbab69bbde03d22eb8323fd94cd46db0\">in the web page JavaScript.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Functional centralisation is <em>good<\/em> news for EOS \u2014 the EOS block producers just decided to <a href=\"https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6505\/eos-block-producers-scrap-constitution\">throw out the EOS Constitution<\/a> and write a new one. A completely trustworthy platform!<\/p>\n<p>Quadriga updates \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/amycastor.com\/2019\/04\/13\/news-51-foot-yacht-for-sale-bitfinex-enables-margin-trading-with-tether-and-fake-satoshi-threatens-legal-action\/\">Gerald Cotten&#8217;s yacht<\/a> is for sale. <a href=\"https:\/\/amycastor.com\/2019\/04\/18\/quadriga-judge-extends-stay-and-ey-squabbles-with-payment-processor\/\">Today&#8217;s hearing<\/a> in what is still technically a CCAA, but headed towards being a bankruptcy, extends the stay on creditors to 28 June. Bankruptcy trustee Ernst &amp; Young is still arguing with POSConnect, one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2019\/04\/02\/quadriga-ccaa-fourth-report-of-the-monitor-from-politely-savage-forensic-accountants\/\">payment processors still holding<\/a> Quadriga funds.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF and the World Bank are <em>totally<\/em> getting into crypto! Or they&#8217;ll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/1cfb6d46-5d5a-11e9-939a-341f5ada9d40\">&#8220;explore crypto merits&#8221;<\/a> with a blockchain project \u2014 &#8220;&#8216;Learning Coin&#8217; will be inaccessible outside the World Bank and the IMF and have no monetary value whatsoever, and is therefore not a real cryptocurrency, like bitcoin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The true star of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190413144219\/https:\/\/decryptmedia.com\/6500\/crypto-a-movie-review\"><em>Crypto<\/em> the Movie<\/a> is apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockislandtimes.com\/article\/block-island-tugboat-stars-new-movie\/54603\">the tugboat.<\/a> (C<em>rypto<\/em> really missed its trick given the hero&#8217;s a Bank Compliance Officer \u2014 the natural predator for the crypto bro.)<\/p>\n<p>I went on CoinTelegraph&#8217;s Hodlers&#8217; Digest again \u2014 this time explaining what an economic bubble is, and how that fits into Bitcoin. I&#8217;m on from <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wZk-JcwHglg?t=590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">9:50 or so.<\/a> I basically recommended people read the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economic_bubble\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Wikipedia article<\/a> on bubbles. I also recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/aroundthecoin\/interview-with-bitcoin-critic-david-gerard-about-everything-he-finds-wrong-with-bitcoin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">an interview<\/a> with the lovely Nako Mbelle from Around The Coin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Apparently, everybody missed this little gem on Tether scam website. <\/p>\n<p>Tether actually removed &quot;backed by actual assets&quot; for their so-called reserves.
