I&#8217;ve spent this week doing press about it \u2014 it&#8217;s amazing how many calls you get if you get a reputation for answering your phone. I did radio with Toronto 640 (no recording yet), <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uIZdn4wxw78\">CBC Vancouver<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wMGo5i_VFLs\">BBC 5 Live<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/business\/quadriga-bitcoin-bankruptcy-1.5004735\">press with CBC<\/a>. Ah, video.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.docdroid.net\/wYxaOnX\/gerald-cotten-will.pdf\">This document<\/a> appears to be Gerald Cotten&#8217;s will \u2014 I think it&#8217;s the document the Canadian press have been reporting on. Jennifer Robertson owns <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/nova-scotia\/quadrigacx-nova-scotia-real-estate-jennifer-robertson-1.5010487\">CDN$7.5m in Nova Scotia real estate,<\/a> all bought in the last two and a half years \u2014 including one property bought from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tucker_Carlson\">Tucker Carlson<\/a> from Fox News, at less than half market value. The creditors are disconcerted to discover that any claimants over $10,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/QuadrigaCX\/comments\/ao7y3x\/email_from_lawyer_advises_we_will_be_publicly\/\">are required by law to be listed publicly.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Christine Duhaime is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duhaimelaw.com\/lawyers\/christine\/\">Financial Crime lawyer,<\/a> and has been doing a lot of media on Quadriga&#8217;s collapse. Last week, she <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cduhaime\/status\/1092247346619002881\">tweeted<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190210004032\/https:\/twitter.com\/cduhaime\/status\/1092247346619002881\">archive<\/a>): &#8220;You know if any other group of Canadians lost $300M from a bank or other finance company, the govt would be freaking, responding and bailing them out but they just don&#8217;t care when crypto people lose vast sums of money. It&#8217;s not right. #QuadrigaCX&#8221; <em>As it happens,<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcsc.bc.ca\/ViewDocument.aspx?DocNum=O7V5C6FAR7LBJ7EDS6X6N7C8T7Q3\">this 2015 British Columbia Report of Exempt Distribution<\/a> \u2014 a document of Quadriga Financial Solutions&#8217; ownership \u2014 lists Duhaime as the contact for 1207649 B.C. Ltd, which owns or owned a chunk of Quadriga. But I&#8217;m sure this is all fine, and a note resolving this apparent possible COI will be coming in due course.<\/p>\n<p>Is there a log of all the mysterious deaths in crypto that are accompanied by millions of dollars of notional Bitcoin value going missing? It failed because of an <em>excess<\/em> of transparency \u2014 everyone could see every update, but it turned out that banks didn&#8217;t want everyone else seeing all their business. &#8220;Swift ended up deploying bilateral blockchains between all the participants.&#8221; This <em>precise problem <\/em>had already been flagged in bank blockchain experiments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/0288caea-7382-11e6-bf48-b372cdb1043a\">in 2016.<\/a> And I described this failure mode \u2014 that businesses don&#8217;t want their competitors seeing all their deals \u2014 in <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/table-of-contents\/\">chapter 11<\/a> of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/book\/\"><em>Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The article on Swift also debunks most of the XRP Army&#8217;s claims about Ripple Labs and XRP. Things never really started for Ripple Labs \u2014 having pivoted from product to product in the search for something they&#8217;re good at, Ripple are back to pushing XRP to unsophisticated investors, using their Twitter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tr0lly.com\/ripple\/the-xrparmy-explained\/\">&#8220;XRP Army&#8221;<\/a> as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tr0lly.com\/twitter\/online-propaganda-group-tactics-explained\/\">street team.<\/a> But Ripple literally does not understand <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nostro_and_vostro_accounts\">nostro and vostro accounts<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 they&#8217;re marketing XRP as a solution to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/francescoppola\/2019\/02\/10\/there-is-no-such-thing-as-dormant-funds-in-banking\/#4a2994f05aef\">made-up problem,<\/a> and claiming this gives XRP a use value above zero. If XRP is found to be a security, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tr0lly.com\/ripple\/ripples-nostro-vostro-trick\/\">this will likely constitute Ripple defrauding XRP investors.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/geoffgolberg\/status\/1093219526760693763<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Child porn, <em>but on the blockchain,<\/em> was not part of Satoshi&#8217;s vision \u2014 but it&#8217;s now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/technology-47130268\">literally part of Satoshi&#8217;s Vision,<\/a> as someone uploaded a JPEG of abuse to Bitcoin SV, using the 100 kilobyte message field they just added. The <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.moneybutton.com\/2019\/01\/31\/against-illegal-content-on-the-blockchain\/\">Money Button service<\/a> was used to upload the image. Everyone involved in Bitcoin SV is horrified, and all point out that leaving a record of a reprehensible crime on an immutable ledger is shockingly traceable. Of course, the image still can&#8217;t be removed.<\/p>\n<p>Joel Ortiz, who stole $5m in cryptos by SIM swapping, gets <a href=\"https:\/\/motherboard.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/gyaqnb\/hacker-joel-ortiz-sim-swapping-10-years-in-prison\">10 years in prison<\/a> in a plea deal.<\/p>\n<p>IBM&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2019\/01\/31\/ibm-puts-oranges-on-the-blockchain\/\">oranges on the blockchain trial<\/a> was publicised with a lie. IBM compared its performance to paper-based systems \u2014 but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.listbox.com\/member\/archive\/post_content.html?post_id=20190207180226:6DCBA674-2B2C-11E9-8836-A0A65A48836D&amp;address=002\">everyone <em>actually<\/em> uses Electronic Data Interchange,<\/a> a standard IBM were heavily involved in!<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2019\/02\/07\/telegram-investor-update-claims-ton-is-now-90-complete\/\">another investor update<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/docdro.id\/gMuwCw1\">archive<\/a>) on Telegram&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/12\/29\/the-telegram-icos-ton-blockchain-has-questionable-security-and-will-probably-centralise\/\">possibly-a-blockchain.<\/a> This one says they&#8217;re 90% of the way to launching the testnet, currently set for March 2019. Telegram is trying to get GRAM tokens listed on Huobi, Binance and OKEx.<\/p>\n<p>More than half of surveyed Bitcoin investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/01\/30\/many-bitcoin-investors-dont-plan-on-reporting-their-losses-to-the-irs.html\">don&#8217;t plan on reporting their losses to the IRS.<\/a> This assumes the IRS won&#8217;t already know they&#8217;re into Bitcoin and ask about their assumed <em>profits<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>UK International Trade Secretary Liam Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/albertonardelli\/leaked-report-irish-border-technology\">seriously believes<\/a> that something called &#8220;blockchain&#8221; can solve Brexit&#8217;s Irish border problem.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC has put out a tender for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbo.gov\/index?s=opportunity&amp;mode=form&amp;id=c18a03f93cf06df47dab8a1c1a7f87a9\">blockchain analysis tool.<\/a> They also have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/ICO\">quick guide to ICOs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brock Pierce is <a href=\"https:\/\/goxrising.com\/\">floating a plan<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2019\/02\/06\/the-plot-to-revive-mt-gox-and-repay-victims-bitcoin\/\">revive Mt.
