It appears the browser renders YouTube data to look like you can donate to a YouTube channel &#8230; even if they&#8217;re not signed up for BAT at all. This exploded on Twitter on Friday, when a viewer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/galkowski_t\/status\/1074703403274698763\">asked<\/a> British YouTuber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomscott.com\/\">Tom Scott<\/a> if he was getting his BAT donations \u2014 and Tom was <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tomscott\/status\/1076160979388518407\">not pleased in the slightest<\/a> with Brave&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tomscott\/status\/1076436029387821056\">claim to represent him,<\/a> when they didn&#8217;t in any way at all.<\/p>\n<p>Brave have apparently released an <a href=\"https:\/\/brave.com\/rewards-update\/\">updated version<\/a> of the browser with new wording\u00a0\u2014 which still doesn&#8217;t really make it clear that the supposed recipient\u00a0<em>never signed up for this and has nothing to do with it<\/em> \u2014 and they&#8217;ll <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrendanEich\/status\/1076246898749501440\">keep defaulting<\/a> to taking &#8220;donations&#8221; on behalf of people who <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrendanEich\/status\/1076294137526116353\">haven&#8217;t signed up at all.<\/a> Amy Castor has a story coming on all of this in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/\">The Block<\/a> shortly. <strong>edit:<\/strong> story is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2018\/12\/24\/brave-browser-is-collecting-donations-on-your-behalf-did-you-know\/\">up now.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(And the image in <a href=\"https:\/\/basicattentiontoken.org\/brave-expands-basic-attention-token-platform-to-youtube\/\">this post<\/a> from last November suggests you can donate to Wikipedia this way. Key flow metrics have downshifted dramatically.&#8221; The CME and CBOE Bitcoin futures are losing interest. The investment banks built crypto products\u00a0\u2014 but the investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-12-23\/wall-street-quietly-shelves-its-bitcoin-dreams\">haven&#8217;t shown up.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>How hard are the <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/12\/17\/the-bart-sudden-hundreds-of-bitcoin-pumps-or-dumps-to-burn-the-margin-traders\/\">Bitcoin price pumpers<\/a> pushing the price? 20 December 2018 was Bitcoin&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/ethereumworldnews.com\/bitcoin-registered-ath-volume\/\">single highest trading volume day<\/a> in its entire history.<\/p>\n<p>World&#8217;s luckiest Bitcoin margin trader \u2014 Mark Dow shorted Bitcoin at the peak, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-12-18\/bitcoin-bear-mark-dow-closes-short-bet-after-fever-breaks\">cashed out at the bottom.<\/a> &#8220;I\u2019m done &#8230; I don\u2019t want to try to squeeze more out of the lemon.&#8221; Here&#8217;s his <a href=\"https:\/\/behavioralmacro.com\/so-you-want-to-short-bitcoin-heres-your-road-map\/\">blog post<\/a> shortly before he opened his position \u2014 there&#8217;s no details on where and how he set up the short.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NUMBER GO UP,<\/strong> December 2017\u00a0\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/12\/11\/despite-bubble-aspects-its-ok-to-play-with-bitcoin-robert-shiller.html\">Meltem Demirors sees<\/a> a &#8220;much bigger run coming in 2018 when more products and more instruments come to market.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>NUMBER GO DOWN,<\/strong> December 2018\u00a0\u2014 actually it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Melt_Dem\/status\/1074741964942249985\">about the technology,<\/a> OK,<\/p>\n<p>Tether is supposed to be pegged to the US Dollar. Who would introduce margin trading on such a stablecoin? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/tiny\/bitfinex-introduces-margin-trading-for-tether\/\">Bitfinex, the people who issue it!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/hong-kong-exchange-hesitant-to-approve-bitmain-ipo-says-source\">reluctant to approve the Bitmain IPO<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 &#8220;The exchange is very hesitant to actually approve these bitcoin mining companies because the industry is so volatile. There\u2019s a real risk that they could just not exist any more in a year or two.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NiceHash competitor WinMiner\u00a0\u2014 a miner for casual users, which shuffled between coins for you, according to which was most profitable to mine that day\u00a0\u2014 has <a href=\"https:\/\/wccftech.com\/competitor-to-nicehash-winminer-goes-into-hibernation-as-many-miners-cease-activity\/\">gone into &#8220;hibernation&#8221;<\/a> as so many home miners give up.<\/p>\n<p>How&#8217;s Bitcoin mining going? ConsenSys has been reported, with a considerable pile of sources, to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/12\/20\/18150036\/consensys-layoffs-employees-pending-startup-ethereum\">firing a lot of people<\/a> \u2014 or spinning a lot of its &#8220;spokes&#8221; (incubated entities that ConsenSys owned 50% of) out as separate entities that couldn&#8217;t possibly survive \u2014 though they now <a href=\"https:\/\/breakermag.com\/consensys-is-not-actually-laying-off-half-of-its-workforce\/\">deny this.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Substratum&#8217;s ICO takings have been hammered so badly by the crash that they&#8217;ve resorted to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinexchangeguide.com\/substratum-decides-to-trade-its-ethereum-eth-to-increase-funding-using-investor-funds\/\">day-trading their startup capital.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the original 2015 Ethereum crowdfunding launch &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2018\/12\/18\/the-ethereum-ico-where-did-all-the-tokens-go\/\">where did all the tokens go?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Civil ICO to <em>save journalism<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/10\/14\/news-whats-wrong-with-civil-bitfinex-deposits-suspended-liquid-is-live-proof-of-work-must-die\/\">went down the tubes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/11\/28\/news-civil-ripped-off-its-journalists-bitfinex-untethers-tether-working-at-trezor-amazon-managed-blockchain\/\">ripped everyone off<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 but it&#8217;s coming back again, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/take-2-news-startup-civil-announces-rebooted-token-sale-for-february\">never-ending token sale<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 starting in February.<\/p>\n<p>Remember CashBetCoin, who had ads for their gambling ICO up in <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/01\/24\/news-friedman-llp-parts-with-bitfinex-weiss-crypto-ratings-netherlands-sec-icos-venezuela-arsenal\/\">Arsenal FC&#8217;s Emirates Stadium<\/a> in January?
