You gotta watch <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/202309340\">the video<\/a> linked in the piece for the full splendor of the facepalm situation. I have to say, I was always shocked at how arrogantly triumphant all these card ICOs were about their access to CC services in their marketing. I am astounded people fell for it at all since the ability to issue a CC is the literal gateway into the regulated financial sphere. How or why people thought there would be exceptions granted here is truly befuddling.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Two US congressmen, one Republican (Ted Budd) and one Democrat (Darren Soto), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/tiny\/bipartisan-congressmen-introduce-two-bills-to-protect-consumers-from-cryptocurrency-manipulation\/\">introduce a pair of bipartisan bills<\/a> about cryptocurrencies and ICOs. One is about manipulation\u00a0\u2014 but the other is to <em>promote<\/em> cryptos. Anyone in the US who knows the area want to have a glance over these and write up what they mean and imply, and if there are lobbyist phrases you can spot? Meanwhile, Bitcoin bagholder and US Congressman <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warren_Davidson\">Warren Davidson<\/a> plans to introduce legislation to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2018\/12\/us-rep-warren-davidson-announces-legislation-to-regulate-initial-coin-offerings-at-blockchain-solutions-conference.html\">declare that ICO and ERC-20 tokens are not securities.<\/a> I&#8217;m sure that will work out swimmingly for all, <em>e.g.<\/em> ICO scammers.<\/p>\n<p>I am shocked, shocked to hear that an ICO promoter turned out to be a serial scammer! Shaun MacDonald, who led the $31 million Blockchain Terminal ICO, was, in fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/2018\/12\/10\/two-identities-one-man-the-story-of-800-million-hedge-fund-fraudster-boaz-manor-who-led-the-alleged-31-million-blockchain-terminal-ico\/\">convicted hedge fund fraudster Boaz Manor.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>24 ICOs <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@CoinFit\/24-icos-raised-2-8-billion-with-almost-0-trading-volume-now-fba1233a6922\">raised $2.8 billion<\/a> with almost zero current trading volume. The crypto crash is leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-12-06\/crypto-market-crash-is-causing-startups-to-shutter-operations\">a wake of bankrupt startups!<\/a> Oh no, whatever shall we do. Even Ethereum Classic <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/etcdev\/status\/1069625401515872256\">has lost Barry Silbert&#8217;s support.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Consensys, the biggest of them, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jeffkauflin\/2018\/12\/05\/cryptopia-in-crisis-billionaire-joe-lubins-ethereum-experiment-is-a-mess-how-long-will-he-prop-it-up\/\">tightening its belt.<\/a> &#8220;One Glassdoor commenter describes ConsenSys as a place with &#8216;unlimited funding and no pressure to actually deliver anything.&#8217; \u201d<\/p>\n<p>(I&#8217;m working on compiling my ICO blog posts into a book \u2014 the followup! Now to cover the important ones. Telegram is proving a <em>bugger.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>That said, the Ethereum blockchain is around a terabyte. So, the Ethereum distributed app system has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/the-race-is-on-to-replace-ethereums-most-centralized-layer\">duly centralised around Consensys.<\/a> I think the way forward with transaction speed is for Ethereum to <a href=\"https:\/\/davidgerard.co.uk\/blockchain\/2018\/05\/13\/ethereum-casper-only-has-to-work-well-enough-worse-is-better-in-action\/\">just admit it&#8217;s centralised.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Desperate for trading volume, Coinbase is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CoinbasePro\/status\/1071102175051304960\">looking seriously<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/12\/07\/coinbase-dabbles-in-shitcoins\/\">adding about thirty questionable altcoins<\/a> to their exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The OmiseGO ICO, an offshoot of Thailand payments fintech Omise, was going to do a crypto-based payments network. It was the first Ethereum ICO to reach a $1 billion market cap!
